Transferring WELL Between Chains

Overview

WELL can be transferred between the Base, OP Mainnet, and Moonbeam networks using the xERC20 cross-chain standard. No third-party bridge is needed since the April 2024 upgrade, which makes moving WELL faster and simpler than bridging most tokens.

Supported Networks

You can transfer WELL between:

  • Ethereum Mainnet

  • Base

  • OP Mainnet

  • Moonbeam

How to Transfer WELL

Step 1: Go to the Transfer page. Navigate to the Transfer page in the Moonwell app.

Step 2: Select your source network. Choose the network where your WELL is currently located. This is the network you're transferring from.

Step 3: Select your destination network. Choose the network where you want to receive your WELL.

Step 4: Enter the amount. Type the amount of WELL you want to transfer. Make sure you have enough WELL, plus enough native tokens to pay gas fees.

Step 5: Confirm the transaction. Review the transfer details and click confirm. Your wallet will prompt you to sign the transaction.

Step 6: Wait for completion. The transfer will begin. Times vary depending on which networks you're using.

Transfer Times

Transfer times depend on which networks you're moving between. Expect to wait up to 25 minutes, depending on network congestion or transfer delays.

What Happens During a Transfer

  1. Your WELL is locked on the source network.

  2. The xERC20 bridge processes the transfer.

  3. Equivalent WELL is released on the destination network.

  4. You receive your WELL in your wallet on the new network.

Gas Fees

You'll pay gas fees on the source network to initiate the transfer. Gas fees vary based on network congestion. Check your wallet for the estimated gas cost before confirming.

Troubleshooting

My transfer is taking longer than expected. Network congestion can cause delays. Transfers usually complete within the estimated timeframe, but may take longer during peak activity.

I don't see my WELL on the destination network. Wait a bit longer for the transfer to complete. If it's been significantly longer than the estimated time, reach out so we can take a look.

I want to cancel my transfer. Once a transfer is initiated, it can't be cancelled. You'll need to wait for it to complete.

Next Steps

Once you have WELL on your desired network, you can use it for governance voting, delegation, or staking in the Safety Module.

Frequently Asked Questions
